Space Law, the Final Frontier.

Space law’s legal foundations are are based in four international treaties, developed within the framework of the United Nations, which related to the use of outer space:

Many nations participating in space activities also have domestic laws that provide direction to government space programs as well as laws that regulate commercial and private space activities. Because of the overlap of international relations, international law, commercial law, corporate law, and the relationship between governmental civilian and defense space activities there are numerous legal uncertainties in space law.

At Quinn Stine, LLC, I help clients navigate the overlap of international relations, international law, commercial law, and corporate law, as well as, counsel on the relationship between governmental civilian and defense space activities through analysis of:

  • Space treaties in force;
  • The space laws and regulations of various nations and states;
  • The role of intergovernmental and nongovernmental international organizations;
  • Property rights in space and on celestial bodies;
  • The relationship of space law to air and admiralty law;
  • Issues of liability resulting from space activities;
  • Pollution and contamination of outer space; and
  • Earth observations and licensing of commercial remote sensing systems.
